GIZ

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH or GIZ in short, better known in English as the German Corporation for International Cooperation GmbH, is a German development agency headquartered in Bonn and Eschborn that provides services in the field of international development cooperation. GIZ mainly implements technical cooperation projects of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), its main commissioning party, although it also works with the private sector and other national and supranational government organizations (but usually not with non-governmental organizations) on a public benefit basis. GIZ has over 50 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment promotion, energy and the environment, and peace and security. GIZ is one of the world’s largest development agencies, with a business volume in excess of 3 billion euros in 2017 as well as 20,726 employees, almost 70 per cent of whom are national personnel that work in around 120 countries. Additionally, in cooperation with the German Federal Employment Agency, GIZ operates the Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM), an agency specialized on international cooperation activities related to global labor mobility since 1980. CIM places experts and managers with employers in developing countries and emerging economies.
